Description:
This most beautiful variety of andradite was discovered in a small deposit in Sonora, Mexico, which quickly dried up. In 2004, another deposit was discovered in Japan, which is where our specimen is from. Although it is easier to obtain than other species of garnets in our collection, it is usually found as isolated crystals, no more than 15 mm in length, or as small geodes no larger than three or four cm. This specimen in our collection is so exceptional, not just because of its size, but because it displays lots of crystals on its matrix. Recently we have found out that another deposit has been discovered some ten km from the previous one, where the garnets apparently display beautiful metallic glints of different colours.
