Quartz was chosen by the geologist Friedrich Mohs to represent grade 7 in his famous scale of hardness dating back to 1825, and which is still valid nowadays. One of the many attractions of this mineral are the numerous and beautiful inclusions that it may have. When specimens contain acicular inclusions of rutile, such as this one, they make spectacular crystals used in jewelry making and are very much sought after by collectors.
