Description:
One of the rarest variety of the garnet group. Black in colour, it is similar to the melanite variety of the andradite species, although it has a much larger content in titanium. It appears in only two or three place on Earth, and often crystals are only millimeters long. The specimens from Bou-Agrao are considered to be the best in the world, both for their exceptional size and for the luster and perfection of their crystals. |
