Description:
Pyrope from Bohemia with their beautiful red colour are, no doubt, the most famous in the world. They rarely get larger than 6 mm, and almost all of the large specimens attributed to this deposit, have been confirmed to be almandine. This beautiful species of garnet became fashionable in the 19th century, causing a feverish urge to possess it, thus enabling the birth of specialized jewelry making which became famous throughout the world and which conquered all social classes, even royalty. Demand for pyrope was such that the deposits were intensely exploited. Maybe this is the reason why it seems surprisingly difficult to acquire specimens in matrix coming form this deposit, and the ones that can be acquired are small.
