Uvarovite is one of the most beautiful species of garnet to the point that some experts call it "the almost perfect gem". It is also the rarest of common garnet species. In the few deposits it can be found, it usually appears in compact formations of crystals only a few millimeters long. Te most important deposit, both for size and beauty of the crystals, is the copper mine at Outokunpu, where magnificent specimens of up to 3 cm were found, much coveted by collectors and never bettered by any other deposit.
